2021 Hajj: NAHCON confirms cancellation of pilgrimage for international pilgrims

By Salisu Sani-Idris

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has canceled the Hajj for international pilgrims for the 2021 season.

NAHCON Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan said this in a statement issued by Ms. Fatima Usara, the commission’s public affairs officer, in Abuja on Saturday.

Hassan said the NAHCON respects Saudi Arabia’s decision in this regard, no matter how painful the decision might be for the commission and potential pilgrims around the world.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has been informed of the cancellation of the Hajj for international pilgrims for the 2021 season.

“We have accepted that it is Allah’s divine design that the multitudes are not yet performing Hajj this year.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is only playing out a scenario ordered by our Creator long before the creation of the universe.

“Our prayer is that we collectively turn to him in repentance to admit us for Hajj in the years to come,” Hassan said.

He noted that one of the lessons of the Hajj cancellations in 2020 and 2021 for foreign pilgrims was in the “hadith (teachings) of the prophet urging Muslims to perform Hajj while they could before being prevented from doing so. .

Again, it impresses us that it is only Allah who selects those who will be His guests for the hajj. May we not be deprived of Allah’s mercy.

“May we be among those who will be chosen to perform the worship of Allah in the future,” said the boss of NAHCON.

Hassan praised the resilience of future Nigerian pilgrims and the support they have shown during the “long and tortuous wait”.

The President said he was particularly impressed and touched by the level of support and respect shown by their adherence to every instruction given by the commission.

“One example is full compliance with receiving the COVID-19 jab in the hope of performing Hajj 2021.

Likewise, the commission appreciates the cooperation of the State Pilgrim Assistance Councils in its decision-making processes.

As in the previous year, pilgrims who request reimbursement of their installments for the hajj will be granted without unnecessary delay.

“However, as for those who would still wish to roll over their funds, the committee urges them to wait for further advice and decisions from the board of directors,” he said.

The president assured stakeholders of NAHCON’s open door policy and cooperation, adding that consultations would be held with all hajj officials on the way forward in the near future.

“This will be communicated to them in due course,” he said.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that in 2020, the Saudi Authority canceled the Hajj for international pilgrims due to the COVID-19 epidemic around the world. (NAA)
