2020: EDSG to invest in agriculture, distribute 250,000 birds -Obaseki



Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo says his administration will distribution 250,000 birds to 1,000 farmers in the state to boost poultry production.

Obaseki made this known at the 23rd Edition of the Auchi Day Celebration held in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo on Wednesday.

He said that in view of the, the government had embark on aggressive poultry and livestock production in the state.

According to him, the State will invest heavily on agriculture this year in line with Federal Government policy to boost food production in the country.

Nigeria News Agency reports that the theme of this year’s Auchi Day Celebration is “Our Salvation is in the Hands of Almighty Allah’’.

“As government; our priority is on youths of the people of Edo state. Our priority is to give them hope and opportunity through policy of the Federal Government on agriculture.

“We have commenced investment, particularly in agriculture and we intend to expand it significantly this year.

“Apart from cultivation of rice, we are embarking seriously in the areas like poultry and livestock, as I speak, the first 250,000 birds which Edo state has taken possession of will be distributed to 1,000 farmers in Edo.

“With this, Edo would be a hub for poultry production and I encourage farmers to participant in poultry production,’’he said.

“I want to use this opportunity to re-emphasised love and peace among the citizens of Edo as we enter the year of election in.

“This two characteristic is key to the development of the state and the theme,’’ Obaseki said.

The governor commended the Otaru of Auchi for entrenching peace and unity in the community.

“Auchi is the most religious tolerance city in the Nigeria.

“This is my first time of attending Auchi Day; this event offers us an opportunity to be responsibly to our Almighty God.

“We must endeavour to love one another and be guided by the doctrines and tenet of the holy Quran,” he said.

Earlier, the Otaru, Aliru Momoh said the day was celebrated to thank Almighty Allah for his protection and guidance for the people of the community.

“Auchi Day is created to thank God for our protection and to promote Islam and harmonious relationship among all those dwelling in the community.

“Auchi is a very peaceful community and I pray that there will be peace and security in Nigeria,” he said.
