Super El Niño Forecast! US Winter Fit Break Record, But Which Storm Go Land?

Forecast for this winter dey point to one Super El Niño wey fit become the strongest ever recorded, and e fit shake different parts of the United States. FOX Weather meteorologists Stephen Morgan, Bayne Froney, Britta Merwin and Craig Herrera bin break down the forecast and compare am with past El Niño winters. FOX Forecast Center tok say since 1990, three winters don fall under Super El Niño: 1991-92, 1997-98 and 2015-16.

But the centre note say same climate pattern no mean say everywhere go see the same weather. The 1991-92 and 1997-98 winters followed very similar patterns, while 2015-16 took entirely different route. That difference, according to the forecast centre, show say El Niño fit produce different effects from one winter to another.

For 1991, El Niño start with blockbuster snowstorm. Halloween blizzard slam Minnesota and Wisconsin, bury parts of the state under feet of snow. The Regional Snowfall Index, wey start for 1990, mark that storm as extreme storm, the highest category on the scale. After that one, very few major storms follow, and the rest of winter see warmer temperatures and rain.

A few years later, El Niño dominate again, and another major October snowstorm rage through the West. That storm carry heavy snow from Colorado to Maine, but the rest of the major cities in Northeast no get snow for the rest of the season.

The 2015-16 winter move different. First major winter storm hit in November. December 2015 exceptionally warm, but the Blizzard of January 2016 bring heavy snow to Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Central Park receive over two feet of snow from that storm alone, FOX Forecast Center tok.

FOX Forecast Center add say all three winters get active storm patterns for Pacific, but whether dem produce rain or snow depend on whether cold air dey available. The centre also say early-season water temperatures fit help explain some of the differences between those winters.
