Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal don join Getafe on free transfer, after im contract at the Bernabeu expire for June. The 34-year-old right-back wey dem born for Madrid bin dey without club since then.
Carvajal spend 23 years with Real Madrid and win 27 titles, including six Champions League crowns. E play 451 matches for the club, and for Spain e make 51 appearances, including Nations League win for 2023 and European Championships triumph for 2024.
Getafe, wey dey 11th for La Liga and dey based for south of Madrid, sign am until June next year. The club talk say dem welcome im “experience and leadership”.
But injuries don affect am well well for recent seasons. E suffer cruciate ligament tear for October 2024, then another serious knee injury one year later. Injuries and arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer limit im appearances for im final season at Real Madrid.
Instead of going abroad or leaving top level, Carvajal choose a fresh challenge just over 10 miles south of the Bernabeu. Staying for Madrid mean e go still dey close to home, and the move give am chance to play regular football and prove say e can still perform at highest level.
