Fuel Price Don Jump Again For Abuja, Lagos As Marketers Hike By N29

Petrol marketers don increase pump price by up to N29 per litre for Abuja, just days after Federal Government announce measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices on consumers.

Checks across the nation’s capital on Sunday show say AA Rano and AYM Shafa raise their pump price to N1,409 per litre from N1,380 per litre last week.

For same Abuja, one NNPC Retail outlet in Azhata, Jikwoyi District, increase its pump price to N1,405 per litre from N1,380. MRS, wey be partner retail outlet of Dangote Refinery, also raise price to N1,405 per litre from N1,370.

These increases happen despite Federal Government petrol discount initiative, where Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) extend its N66-per-litre discount until October 31, 2026.

The discount, wey start on October 1 to mark Nigeria 66th Independence Anniversary, reduce NNPC Retail N1,405 pump price to N1,339 per litre for customers wey pay digitally through its mobile application.

Federal Government talk say the initiative dey funded through NNPC Retail decision to forgo its profit margin, no be through public funds, and e no amount to return of petrol subsidy.

For Lagos, some stations for Ikorodu and other locations sell petrol at N1,360 per litre, while outlets for Coker, Orile and Second Rainbow retail the product at N1,350 per litre.

But some independent oil marketers sell petrol between N1,360 and N1,400 per litre, depending on location.

The latest increases reflect continuing pressure on domestic petrol prices following rise in global crude oil prices amid Middle East conflict.

For one statement, NNPC Limited talk say its discount dey intended to provide relief to consumers during period of elevated global market uncertainty.

NNPC tok say: ‘We recognise that higher petrol prices affect everyday life, from the cost of commuting to the expenses of running a business. We understand the strain on families and livelihoods, and this discount is intended to provide direct relief to customers during this difficult period.’

Following statement by Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on 8 October 2026, NNPC Limited reiterate say e go work with government and stakeholders to cushion impact of rising fuel prices on households, businesses and wider economy.

Before the announcement, NNPC Limited introduce sales discount on 1 October 2026 to commemorate Nigeria 66th Independence Anniversary. This one go now continue until 31 October 2026 across NNPC Retail stations nationwide. The discount na customer relief initiative and e no represent reintroduction of petroleum subsidy.

NNPC tok say the initiative support government responsible and proactive approach to provide practical relief to Nigerians during period of heightened global market uncertainty.

E apply to NNPC Retail outlets and e no establish uniform national pump price or alter market-based pricing framework wey apply to petroleum products.

NNPC Limited talk say e remain committed to reliable product supply and collaboration with government and stakeholders to help ease burden on Nigerians. Dem urge public to disregard any interpretation of the discount as subsidy restoration.

NNPC add: ‘We appreciate Nigerians’ continued patronage and support, and remain committed to clear communication about our products, prices and customer initiatives.’
