Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, don call on Senator Francis Fadahunsi make im retract im harmful statement and apologise to Osun people. Dis one na because of video wey show Fadahunsi dey tell im supporters make dem ‘kill’ Accord Party members ahead of Osun State governorship election wey go hold on Saturday.
Fadahunsi, wey dey represent Osun East Senatorial District, don deny say im call for violence. Im say na to ‘kill Accord with votes’ im mean, no be physical attack.
Obi react for statement wey im post for im X account on Tuesday, with title ‘Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s Incendiary Rhetoric Ahead of the Osun Election.’ Im express concern say dis kind threat-laden rhetoric fit escalate tension for state.
Obi talk say as high-ranking lawmaker for National Assembly, Fadahunsi get solemn constitutional and moral responsibility to promote peace, uphold democratic norms, and foster unity. Im describe di alleged remarks as ‘alarming and unacceptable,’ warning say political threats and intimidation fit heighten tension, frighten voters, and even trigger electoral violence.
Obi say elections suppose be peaceful exercise wey citizens dey freely choose dia leaders without intimidation or coercion. Im say any resort to threats of force or disruption dey undermine integrity of electoral process, disrespect electorate, and threaten fragile peace of state.
Di former Anambra State governor therefore urge Fadahunsi to withdraw di statement and apologise to Osun residents. ‘I therefore respectfully demand that Senator Fadahunsi retract these harmful statements and tender an apology to di peaceful people of Osun State,’ Obi talk.
Obi also call on political leaders, party supporters, and oda stakeholders to moderate dia language and exercise restraint as state approach election. Im urge security agencies to closely monitor inflammatory statements and make sure sey dem protect voters, election officials, and oda citizens before, during, and after polls.
Di democratic mandate belong to di people, and no individual, regardless of status or political office, suppose try to subvert di will of di people through fear or coercion. Im appeal to Osun residents to remain calm and peaceful while dem dey exercise dia constitutional right to vote on Saturday.
