Di Senate don come out to clear di air about di proposed amendment of di Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Act, 2007. Dem say no new ban dey for preaching or hawking inside commercial vehicles, as many people dey worry about di new law.
According to di upper chamber, preaching and hawking for commercial vehicles already be offences under existing law. Di offence dey inside Section 10(4) of FRSC Act and Regulation 220 of National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 2012.
Di Senate explain say di provision wey dem list before as Item 36 for di Second Schedule of di Act, now dem just renumber am as Item 49 for di amendment process. Na since 2007 di law don dey.
For statement wey di Office of di Senate Leader release on Monday, dem say di amendment bill no go stop street preaching or restrict religious activities for public. Dem say na about safety of commuters and other road users, and no be to undermine any religious activity.
Di Senate further make clear say di bill no come from Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, as some reports dey claim. Di bill originally come from House of Representatives and now dey before Senate as concurrence bill, according to 1999 Constitution.
