Zamfara Chief Judge cry out: Judiciary need better funding

Zamfara State Chief Judge, Ms Aliyu, don raise alarm about di poor funding wey dey affect di judiciary. She tok say funding na critical element for di success of di judiciary as di Constitution of di Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantee.

Ms Aliyu urge for full financial autonomy for di judiciary, according to Section 121(3) of di Constitution. She explain say di High Court of Zamfara State dey receive only N10 million every month, wey far below wetin dem need to run court effective, invest for technology, train staff, buy materials and diesel.

Without enough funding, di wheel of justice go turn slowly, and public confidence go weak. She mention say for some years now, none of di High Court judges don attend any international conference because of lack of funds. Even di directive from di Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. O. Kekere-Ekun, to start virtual hearing, no fit work without proper equipment and training.

Ms Aliyu also complain about lack of befitting official vehicles for judicial officers. Di last time dem give vehicles na 2020. She appreciate Governor Dauda Lawal for supporting di workshop wey dem hold, but she still dey call for more government attention.
